HOW TO CREATE THE

Creating the Perfect Trip on GoTrekkin: A How-To Guide

GoTrekkin’s “add a trip” feature is one of the main functions of the website, and also the most useful.  Here’s a quick guide on how to get the most out of this awesome tool!

There are two main reasons for adding a trip:  documenting trips from the past and planning trips for the future.  

Let’s say you’re suffering from a serious case of wanderlust and you need to get away.  Once you choose your destination, you can plan your entire trip via GoTrekkin and the “add a trip” function is your new best friend.  Not only can you create your entire itinerary (complete with destinations and activities), other Trekkers can add tips and comments to help you get the most out of your holiday.  As a bonus, you can book your flights & accommodations through GoTrekkin too!

Imagine:  you just returned from the most amazing trip through Brazil.  All of your friends and family are asking for info.  Where did you go, what did you see?  What was your favorite restaurant in Rio?  Best beaches?  Nightclubs?  And photos – they want photos too!  Ok, no worries – you got this.  Document your Brazilian getaway via our “add a trip” function and share your trip with friends, family, social media, and the entire GoTrekkin community.

Ready to GoTrekkin?  Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating the perfect trip.

 

Step 1:  The Basics

  • Log in to your GoTrekkin account and click “add trip” in the top right corner.
  • Enter your trip name, description, and destination.  If your trip includes more than one city, add them all!
  • Don’t forget a cover photo!  Pick something that represents your destination – landscape, skyline, or a cool memory.
  • Click “save trip” and step 1 is done!

 

Step 2:  The Breakdown

Now it’s time to start plugging in the details.  Whether you’re planning for multiple destinations within one trip or just focusing on one city, GoTrekkin allows you to add a ton of info.  

Add activities.  Click  “add activity” below the map and search for things you want to do in this destination. You will also see some suggested/popular activities, which you can easily add to your trip by clicking the blue plus sign to the right.

Can’t find what you’re looking for in the suggested menu?   No problem – you can also add activities manually by clicking “add new activity”.

You can also review the places you’ve listed after you’ve been.  Click “add review” to share your opinion!

Once you’ve added all of your activities, check out the other features within your trip:

Discussion.  Start a discussion topic by entering the thing you want to talk about.  Friends who follow your trip (or other trip admins) will be able to reply.

Tips.  Create tips around various topics that will be helpful along the way.  Any and all info is great here, so the more tips, the better!

Photos.  You can add photos before, during, or after any trip.  Document your travels and store your memories by using this cool feature to keep a photo gallery of each adventure!

Set Up Funding.  We believe that everyone should have access to travel, even if money gets in the way.  That’s why we created the “fund” feature, which allows you to crowd fund your trips.  Once you’ve created your trip, click the green “set up funding” button, which will route you to enter some infomation with our payment partner, Stripe.  Once this is done, people will be able to donate funds to your trip, which helps you get there faster!

Book Flights, Hotels, Cars.  Get it all done in one place.  Just below your destination(s) in the trip feed, you’ll see options to book flights, hotels, and cars.  When you’re ready to book, just click the link that applies to and you’ll be routed to our booking partner, Hipmunk.

Step 3:  Social

  • You can continuously add info to a trip at any time.   So as long as you’re in the planning phase, keep coming back to your trip and making updates.  To edit your trip, just click the 3 dots to the right of your trip title.

  • Traveling with others?  Invite them to join the trip and add their own activities, tips, photos, and more!

  • And lastly, once you’re ready, share your trip on social media so that other travelers can get inspired by your jet set lifestyle!
